City OKs spending for vehicles, computers

The Austell City Council approved $328,225 for several expenditur­es, including a truck, three vehicles, firetruck computers and other purchases.

Funding is from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

They include:

■ A grapple truck for $180,923 from Environmen­tal Products Georgia. Public Works Department Director Bo Garrison said this truck will be the second one to be owned by the city, allowing all of the limbs in the city to be picked up in two days instead of five days.

■ Three parks vehicles — $28,145 for one and $23,565 eachfor two— all from Thornton Chevrolet. Parks and Community Affairs Department­s Director Jim Graham said these new vehicles should last 11 to 15 years or longer.

■ $9,627 to Mooring Tech and $3,435 to Diversifie­d Electronic­s. Mooring Tech will supply two Toughbook 20 computers for the city’s firetrucks. Diversifie­d Electronic­s will install mounting brackets in the firetrucks.

■ $29,700 to PKS Paving for paving of the front road at Cobb County’s Sweetwater Valley Library, 5000 Austell-Powder Springs Road in the city’s Threadmill Complex.

■ $19,000 for a new Christmas tree that will be displayed off Veterans Memorial Highway instead of in Collier Park next to City Hall.

■ $10,265 to Real Fleet Solutions for a 300-gallon parks turf sprayer. Graham said the city does not have a sprayer which has three uses for control of weeds, pests or drought.
