Q:The rest stop on I-75 north between Adairsville and Resaca has been closed for almost a year. The southbound stop was closed but has been reopened. What’s going on? Based on the modest improvements done to the southbound facility, this project should have never taken this long.

ARNOLD EAVES, WOODSTOCK

A: The rest stop, located on I-75 north in Gordon County, is scheduled to open Monday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). It is expected to reopen at 7 a.m. after a final inspection, the GDOT media release noted.

The facility was closed in January 2018 for renovations and was originally scheduled to open in early December 2018, according to GDOT.

The $2.54 million project included renovating the I-75 north rest area and remodeling the rest area on I-75 southbound that previously reopened.

The I-75 north rest area building has a new roof, gutters, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, LED lighting, and new toilets and toilet partitions, floor and wall tile, counters, mirrors and electric hand dryers in the bathrooms. Sensors have been installed to light restrooms and breezeways, and the walls and ceilings were repaired and repainted. The building also now has a family restroom.

Changes also include repairs and re-striping of the parking lot, drainage and sidewalk repairs, and new landscaping.
