RED SOX: Nathan Eovaldi is expected to rejoin the Red Sox for a series in Baltimore and work out of the bullpen after completing a rehab appearance Thursday with Triple-A Pawtucket. Eovaldi began the year in Boston’s rotation but had elbow surgery in April. In need of relief help, the Red Sox plan to use the hard-throwing righthander out of the bullpen. He may not be activated from the 60-day injured list until today, since he just pitched Thursday.

YANKEES: Manager Aaron Boone was suspended for one game for a rant that followed his ejection in a doubleheader opener against Tampa Bay. MLB executive Joe Torre also said Friday that Boone has been fined. Boone was ejected in the second inning Thursday for arguing from the dugout with rookie umpire Brennan Miller, who had called a third strike on Brett Gardner. Torre said Boone made contact with Miller during his profane rant. Boone was set to serve the suspension Friday night during New York’s series opener against Colorado.

ANGELS: Mike Trout returned to the Los Angeles lineup after missing the previous three games due to a mildly strained right calf. The two-time AL MVP was the designated hitter Thursday when the Angels completed a fourgame series against the Houston Astros. He leads the league in home runs (30) and RBIs (75) and has a .305 batting average, which is ninth.

ATHLETICS: All-Star third baseman Matt Chapman sat out Thursday night’s game with a sore left ankle after being removed from the previous game after two innings.

BREWERS: Left-hander Gio Gonzalez (left arm) is close to a return from the 10-day injured list and will rejoin the starting rotation, manager Craig Counsell said.
