THE HOT CORNER
REDS: Rookie Aristides Aquino homered in his first three at-bats Saturday night against the Cubs, then drew a four-pitch walk and struck out in his last two plate appearances. Aquino hit seven homers in his first 10 games with Cincinnati, tying the MLB record set by Colorado’s Trevor Story in 2016. There have been 18 players who hit four homers in a game, most recently J.D. Martinez for Arizona on Sept. 4, 2017. No rookie has ever homered four times in a game.
METS: Minor leaguer and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is expected to miss the rest of the season with a cut on his left hand. The 31-year-old hit .163 in 77 games during his first season with Triple-A Syracuse but hasn’t played since July 21 after injuring himself fielding a ball in the outfield. The outfielder also missed the final two months of 2018 because of a hand injury.
YANKEES: Infielder Gleyber Torres is back in the lineup after sitting out four games because of an unspecified core injury. Also, the Yankees put LHP Stephen Tarpley on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder impingement. Infielder Breyvic Valera was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre. New York selected RHP Brady Lail and LHP Joe Mantiply from Triple-A. Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (sprained right knee) was transferred from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, but manager Aaron Boone said he still believes Stanton, sidelined since June 26, will be able to return this season.
PADRES: Announced LHP Jose Castillo will miss the rest of the season after injuring the middle finger on his pitching hand Thursday night. Castillo was activated from the 60-day injured list earlier Thursday and lasted just four batters before getting hurt.
CUBS: Reliever Steve Cishek went on the 10-day injured list with a sore left hip.
