THE HOT CORNER

1 MLB SCHEDULE: Major League Baseball will open its 2020 season March 26, its earliest start other than international games. The schedule also features a late April series in Puerto Rico between the Mets and Marlins. Globe Life Field, the new home of the Texas Rangers, opens March 31. It’s the first new ballpark since the Braves’ SunTrust Park opened in 2017.

The commissioner’s office also said all 30 teams could play on opening day for the first time since 1968. The regular season is to end Sept. 27, putting the World Series on track for Oct. 20-28.

As previously announced, the Cubs and Cardinals will play two games in London in June. The Yankees and White Sox will play Aug. 13 at a ballpark next to the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. A Little League Classic between the Red Sox and Orioles is set for Aug. 23 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

2 YANKEES: Until opening a doubleheader against Baltimore with a victory on Monday, New York had not beaten an opponent 13 straight times in a season since 1957 against the Kansas City A’s. Baltimore had not lost 13 in a row to one team in a season since 1955 against Cleveland.

3 ORIOLES: Through Monday’s first game, Baltimore had allowed an AL-record 245 homers, 13 away from the season mark set by Cincinnati in 2016. The Orioles were on pace for 108 defeats this season.

4 RED SOX: Placed Michael Chavis on the 10-day injured list with a sprained shoulder he sustained recently while trying to make a diving catch. The first-year player has 18 homers and 58 RBIs (second-most to the Mets’ Pete Alonso among rookies) but has been in a slump, batting .156 (5 for 32) in his last 11 games.

5 INDIANS: OF Yasiel Puig dropped the appeal for his three-game suspension for his involvement in a July 30 brawl.
