There are day parties and hair shows, something for all ages to enjoy.

This Labor Day tradition continues through Monday, with events in various venues around town, including the Georgian Terrace, which is this year’s host hotel, and the clubs Compound (1008 Brady Ave. NW) and Revel (1778 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd.). Atlanta Black Pride Weekend is back, and thousands of people will flock to the city on Labor Day weekend to celebrate Atlanta’s African-American LGBTQ community. ABPW is now one of the largest pride celebratio­ns for African-Americans in the world, drawing in 10,000 people into the city during already-crowded Labor Day festivitie­s.

Black Pride is celebrated shortly before National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11 and has been a staple event for Atlanta’s LGBTQ community for more than two decades. From day parties to hair shows, there is something for all ages to enjoy, and The Atlanta Journal-Constituti­on is providing its top picks of Atlanta Black Pride events. Here is a short list of things to do during Black Pride weekend.

MEGA Friday Night Live Ladies Lounge

Comedienne B.Simone and R&B songstress Sevyn Streeter are turning it up for the ladies with a mega party at OAK Atlanta sponsored by TRAXX Girls.

For 13 years TRAXX Girls, founded by Melissa Scott, has sponsored parties for LGBTQ women around Atlanta. There are block parties, day parties and a few brunches that will cater specifical­ly to the women during ABPW.

Flashback Buck Down

Dance teams from around the country battle it out for a chance to win $1,000 and be crowned the Flashback Buck Down champions. Meet Me On Da Floor, a nonprofit that sponsors adult majorette competitio­ns and workshops, has hosted and sponsored this event for 10 years. This dance competitio­n is located at Bessie Branham Park and will be full of adult majorettes who are ready to flip, dip and twirl their way to the grand prize.

Pure Heat Community Festival

This event at Piedmont Park attracts the largest and most diverse crowd during Atlanta Black Pride Week. Some of the featured performers include R&B singer Tweet, who is best known for 2002 hit “Oops (Oh My),” and an appearance from Angelica Ross formerly of the TV series “Pose.” There is also a hair show and a J-Sette competitio­n. Awards will also be given to honor trailblaze­rs and icons in the LGBTQ community, such as celebrity hairstylis­t Tokyo Stylez.

Nightlife Fun

Rock Star Production­s, JT events, and M.Y. ATL Production­s are hosting several nightlife events at the legendary Marquette nightclub, Mansion Elan, Compound Atlanta and other notable nightclubs around Atlanta.
