THE HOT CORNER

ANGELS: The family of late pitcher Tyler Skaggs said it was startled to learn a club employee “may” be part of the investigation into the 27-year-old’s death from an accidental drug overdose. A Texas coroner said in a report made public Friday that Skaggs died after choking on his vomit with a toxic mix of alcohol and the powerful painkillers fentanyl and oxycodone in his system. Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room in the Dallas area July 1 before the start of what was supposed to be a four-game series against the Texas Rangers. “That is completely out of character for someone who worked so hard to become a Major League Baseball player and had a very promising future in the game he loved so much,” the family said.

YANKEES: CC Sabathia was placed on the injured list for the fourth time this year. The 39-yearold lefty, who plans to retire after the season, was removed from his start Friday against Oakland due to a recurrence of pain in a balky right knee that has bothered him for years. He was put on the 10day IL, and RHP Jonathan Loaisiga was recalled from Triple-A.

CUBS: First baseman Anthony Rizzo returned to the lineup after missing the past four games because of a tight back. He batted cleanup Saturday against the Brewers at Wrigley Field. He took batting practice Friday and texted manager Joe Maddon the next morning saying he was ready. Maddon says Rizzo felt good after a lot of swings, calling that a “big litmus test.”

DODGERS: An MRI revealed Max Muncy has a small fracture in the wrist. It is a bleaker outcome than the initial diagnosis of a contusion following a fluoroscopy and X-rays on Wednesday, but far from the worst-case scenario. A significant fracture would have meant missing up to eight weeks. Instead, Muncy and the club expect he will miss approximately two weeks.
