1 NATIONALS: Selected the contract of RHP Aaron Barrett from Double-A Harrisburg, completing the reliever’s comeback from Tommy John surgery in 2015 and a fractured right arm in 2016. Barrett did not pitch in the minors in 2016 or 2017, then made 20 appearance­s for Class A Auburn last year. He was 0-2 with a 2.75 ERA and 31 saves for Harrisburg this season.“I just found it within myself to keep pushing forward,”said Barrett, who last pitched in the majors on Aug. 5, 2015.“I said it all along: When I make it back, it’s going to be a hell of a comeback story. I’m pretty overwhelme­d that I’m here.”

2 ASTROS: CF George Springer was being examined for a head injury Tuesday after running into the wall and being carted off the field at Milwaukee. The 2017 World Series MVP was walking around the clubhouse after a 4-2 loss and manager AJ Hinch said Springer was day to day and OK to travel back to Houston with the team for a series vs. Seattle.

3 RANGERS: Texas OF Scott Heineman hit his first career homer Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.“For it to happen here, it’s just funny the way the world works, because both my parents are from New York,” Heineman said.“So, I’ve got family here, my dad’s side of the family is all in the stands, and it was pretty cool.”

4 ROYALS: Ryan McBroom, acquired Saturday from the Yankees, made his major league debut Tuesday, getting the start at first base and going 1 for 3 with a walk. He was one of the most dangerous hitters in the Internatio­nal League this season, hitting .315 with 26 home runs in 117 games for Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

5 ANGELS: Los Angeles is 3-14 over its past 17 road games. At 65-74 before Wednesday, the Angels were nine games below .500 for the first time since finishing the 2016 season at 74-88.
