Guilty plea: A former United Auto Workers official accused of taking about $2 million in kickbacks from vendors has pleaded guilty to money laundering and conspiracy charges. Mike Grimes, of Fort Myers, Florida, entered the pleas Wednesday in a Detroit federal court. He faces roughly four years or more in prison.

E-cigarette ban: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is moving to make Michigan the first state to ban flavored e-cigarettes. The Democrat announced Wednesday she ordered the state health department to issue emergency rules. They will prohibit the sale and misleading marketing of flavored nicotine vaping products.

33 bodies recovered: Coast Guard officials have recovered the bodies of 33 people who died in a massive fire aboard Conception that started as the 75-foot vessel was anchored off the coast of Santa Cruz Island in California. One person is still missing, authoritie­s said Wednesday. Thirty-nine people were on board when the fire broke out.

Designflaw: A design flaw in Tesla’s Autopilot semiautono­mous driving system and driver inattentio­n combined to cause a Model S electric car to slam into a firetruck parked along a California freeway, a government investigat­ion has found. The National Transporta­tion Safety Board determined the driver was overly reliant on the system and that Autopilot’s design let him disengage from driving.

Craig not guilty: Afederal jury found Gregory Craig not guilty of lying to the Justice Department, acquitting the Democratic former White House counsel Wednesday of concealing media contacts in 2012 related to his work for the Ukraine government. Jurors deliberate­d less than a day before vindicatin­g Craig, 74, a former top legal adviser to Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
