What’s not working around metro Atlanta

Over the last decade, readers have sent us requests to fill numerous potholes, correct bad traffic lights and get steel plates removed from busy city streets. This week’s request from Craig Kimbrough may be unique in this column’s history.

Kimbrough wants to see if we can get him help in getting a crumpled light post fixed in the heart of one of the city’s entertainment districts.

“The lamp post at 200 North Highland Ave. was taken out in an accident over a year ago. It needs to be replaced as what remains is a pedestrian hazard, especially at night with reduced lighting,” he reported.

We decided to start out by sending his issue to the city and will let you know if the city can fix it or if another agency is responsible.

In July, we told you about Ron Brooks’ concern about a noisy new device meant to help pedestrians cross a busy city street. “Recently a pedestrian sig- naling device was installed at 10th St. NW and Atlantic Drive NW. It beeps and talks and is annoyingly loud. It is not the pedestrians who violate the crosswalk, it is the scooters and bikers, and also autos running the red light constantly, speeding down 10th St. Can the volume on this device at least be adjusted?” he questioned.

We sent a friendly reminder to the cit y this week to see if it this is fixed or if they have an updated timeline on getting the issue resolved.
