1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin was fined $5,000 and reprimanded by Conference USA for criticizing officiating in the Owls’ Friday game by posting on Twitter a photo of blind officials, using canes and being led around by seeing eye dogs.
2 PRO TENNIS: Playing his 1,500th tour-level match, Roger Federer needed just 53 minutes to cruise past German Peter Gojowczyk 6-2, 6-1 at his hometown Swiss Indoors event. The nine-time Basel champion hit 12 aces in the first-round match to extend his winning streak there to 21 straight matches and improve his ATP career record to 1,232 wins and 268 losses. The 38-year-old is top-seeded this week as he looks to add to his 102 career tour titles.
3 SOCCER: UEFA punished Serbia for racist fan incidents by ordering the stadium to be closed for its next home game in European Championship qualifying. The sanction was announced as UEFA also weighs action against Bulgaria for racist abuse of England players last week.
4 BASKETBALL: Dallas police said one man was arrested and a second suspect was being sought in last month’s slaying of former NBA and Texas Tech standout Andre Emmett. WFAA-TV reported Keith Johnson, 32, was being held Monday on a capital murder charge with bail set at $500,000. Investigators say Johnson and a second suspect allegedly shot Emmett during a Sept. 23 robbery attempt.
5 OLYMPICS: Three-time world champ Nyjah Huston, 24, tops the USA Skateboarding National Team heading into the sport’s Olympic debut next summer. He’s considered the gold medal favorite in men’s street. The 2020 team was announced after the national championships concluded Sunday. Huston didn’t need to compete because he already had enough points.
