1 More blackouts: Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said it will go ahead with widespread blackouts affecting nearly a half-million people starting Wednesday as dangerous fire weather returns to California. The utility company said it would begin precaution­ary shutoffs in the afternoon affecting nearly 180,000 homes and businesses, mostly in the Sierra foothills and north of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Trump sues California: The 2 Trump administra­tion sued to try to block California from engaging in internatio­nal efforts against climate change, charging that the state exceeded its constituti­onal authority by joining with a Canadian province in a program to cut fossil fuel emissions. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is named in the suit accused the administra­tion of a “vendetta.”

Murder charges: A Missouri 4 cattle farmer charged with two counts of first-degree murder shot two brothers from Wisconsin, burned their bodies and dumped the remains on a manure pile on his property, investigat­ors said. Garland Nelson is accused of killing Nick and Justin Diemel, who authoritie­s said had gone to Missouri to collect on a $250,000 debt Nelson owed.

More rain in Japan: Two weeks 5 after Typhoon Hagibis killed more than 80 people in Japan, the same hard-hit areas may experience dangerous flooding again from heavy rain linked to Typhoon Bualoi. Significan­t rainfall is forecast to begin along the eastern coast of Honshu, which includes Tokyo, as early as today.
