1 More blackouts: Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said it will go ahead with widespread blackouts affecting nearly a half-million people starting Wednesday as dangerous fire weather returns to California. The utility company said it would begin precautionary shutoffs in the afternoon affecting nearly 180,000 homes and businesses, mostly in the Sierra foothills and north of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Trump sues California: The 2 Trump administration sued to try to block California from engaging in international efforts against climate change, charging that the state exceeded its constitutional authority by joining with a Canadian province in a program to cut fossil fuel emissions. Murder charges: A Missouri 4 cattle farmer charged with two counts of first-degree murder shot two brothers from Wisconsin, burned their bodies and dumped the remains on a manure pile on his property, investigators said. Garland Nelson is accused of killing Nick and Justin Diemel, who authorities said had gone to Missouri to collect on a $250,000 debt Nelson owed.
More rain in Japan: Two weeks 5 after Typhoon Hagibis killed more than 80 people in Japan, the same hard-hit areas may experience dangerous flooding again from heavy rain linked to Typhoon Bualoi. Significant rainfall is forecast to begin along the eastern coast of Honshu, which includes Tokyo, as early as today.
