PRO HOCKEY:

Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko will have surgery on his left shoulder and be out at least five months. General manager Doug Armstrong announced the move Monday and said the procedure will be performed today on the Russian star, who has been placed on long-term injured reserve. Tarasenko has three goals and seven assists in 10 games this season for the defending Stanley Cup champion.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Wake Forest says freshman forward Tariq Ingraham is out for the season after tearing his Achilles tendon. Coach Danny Manning said Monday that Ingraham had surgery last week to repair the tendon in his left foot. He was injured during practice Thursday. Manning says he is “heartbroke­n” by the injury to Ingraham, who’s rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com.

SOCCER:

Ajax defender Sergiño Dest decided to remain with the United States national team rather than switch to the Netherland­s. The outside back, who has a Surinamese-American father and Dutch mother, played for the U.S. in the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups. In recent weeks, both Netherland­s coach Ronald Koeman and U.S. counterpar­t Gregg Berhalter had spoken to Dest, 18, in an attempt to persuade him.

TENNIS:

Simona Halep saved a match point before beating Canadian teen Bianca Andreescu 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3 Monday at the WTA Finals in China. Halep, a former No. 1 who won the Wimbledon title in July, saved the match point in the 12th game of the second set. Earlier, defending champion Elina Svitolina stretched her unbeaten run at the season-ending tournament into a new year, beating Karolina Pliskova 7-6 (12), 6-4 in her opening match.
