PRO BASKETBALL:

Detroit Pistons guard Reggie Jackson is out at least four weeks with a back injury, the team announced Saturday. Jackson, who played the season’s first two games but has missed the last four, has a stress reaction in his lower back.

The Pistons (2-4) also have been without All-Star Blake Griffin for the first six games, and he also was listed as out for Saturday’s game against Brooklyn with lingering soreness in his left knee and hamstring.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Tennessee center Uros Plavsic must sit out the 2019-20 season after the NCAA refused to grant the Arizona State transfer a waiver that would have enabled him to play for the Volunteers immediatel­y. Athletic Director Phillip Fulmer says Tennessee also filed an appeal that was denied. Plavsic, a 7-foot redshirt freshman, transferre­d to Tennessee after the 2018-19 season.

AUTO RACING:

Kurt Busch and sponsor Monster Energy have agreed to a multiyear extension to stay with Chip Ganassi Racing. Busch and his sponsor had moved to Ganassi on a one-year deal last winter. This was the 20th Cup season for Busch, the 2004 champion and a winner of 31 races.

RUGBY: South Africa won a record-tying third Rugby World Cup title with a 32-12 victory over England in Yokohama, Japan. The Springboks also won titles in 1995 against New Zealand and in 2007 against England.

FIGURE SKATING:

Alena Kostornaia earned a convincing win over Olympic gold medalist Alina Zagitova at the Internatio­naux de France, while American Nathan Chen won the men’s event. Mariah Bell took bronze for the United States. Russian Alexander Samarin took second and France’s Kevin Aymoz claimed was third.
