Stone trial: Prosecutors in the trial of Roger Stone told jurors Wednesday they will prove he lied multiple times before congressional committees. The longtime confidant of President Donald Trump is accused of lying to lawmakers about attempts to communicate with WikiLeaks, tampering with witnesses and obstructing the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia in 2016.
Al-Baghdadi development: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that Turkey has captured one of the wives of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the slain Islamic State leader. He did not identify her or give any details of her capture. Erdogan also confirmed the capture of al-Baghdadi’s elder sister and brother-in-law in northern Syria several days ago.
UAW probe: Joe Ashton, a retired United Auto Workers vice president, was charged Wednesday with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiring to commit money laundering. He is accused of receiving kickbacks from a contractor who made watches for union members. Ashton is the 13th person to be charged in a federal investigation of corruption at the union and auto companies.
Driverless death: Uber’s selfdriving test car that struck and killed a pedestrian last year wasn’t programmed to recognize and react to jaywalkers, according to documents released by safety investigators. The National Transportation Safety Board is scheduled to meet on Nov. 19.
Sessions eyes Senate seat: Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions will announce he is entering the race for his old U.S. Senate seat in Alabama, two Republicans with knowledge of his plans said Wednesday. Sessions, 72, was President Donald Trump’s first attorney general. He stepped down from that post last year.
