1 Suspect identified: Authorities have identified an Alabama man who is wanted in connection with the disappearance of UFC heavyweight Walt Harris’s stepdaughter. News outlets report a warrant for first-degree kidnapping was issued Thursday for Ibraheem Yazeed, 30, in the disappearance of 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard. Auburn police released images of Yazeed inside a convenience store where Blanchard was last seen Oct. 23.
2 Top cop to retire: Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced Thursday that he will retire at the end of the year. Johnson oversaw a steady drop in the city’s murder rate after taking the top post in 2016, but he recently lost a vote of confidence by leaders of the city’s main police union over an incident in which he was found sleeping in a parked SUV after an evening in which he was drinking.
3 Not ‘Made in USA’: A Long Island firm sold tens of millions of dollars in Chinese-made surveillance and other sensitive security equipment to customers, including the U.S. military, by falsely claiming it was made in America, federal prosecutors said Thursday. Seven current and former Aventura employees, including top managers, were charged with conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud.
4 Bodies identified: British police say they have formally identified the 39 people found dead in a container truck in southeastern England and notified their families in the apparent people-smuggling tragedy. The authorities said Thursday they’ve been working with Vietnamese police and the coroner to identify the bodies that were found Oct. 23 in the back of a truck in an industrial park in the English town of Grays.
