TIMELINE: THE CASE OF JAYDEN MYRICK
August 2000
Jayden Myrick was born, the first child of Jauvena Myrick, 16.
May 2002
Myrick’s father, Cleophus Ward Jr., was arrested for a series of sexual assaults for which he received a 15-year prison sentence.
March 2014
At age 13, Myrick was arrested for the first time, for fighting at school.
February 2015
Myrick, 14, was arrested for burglarizing a home in his neighborhood. A judge placed him on“trial release.”
April 2015
Two weeks after the“trial release,”Myrick was arrested for armed robbery and placed in a jail for juveniles.
February 2016
Myrick pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of robbery. He was sentenced to seven years behind bars.
March 2016
Myrick entered the Sumter Youth Development Campus near Americus, a state juvenile prison.
October 2016
Myrick was charged with felony aggravated assault for attacking another prisoner.
April 2017
Twice, Myrick led group disturbances at the Sumter youth prison. Both times, he was charged with interference with government property, a misdemeanor.
May 2017
Cleophus Ward, Myrick’s father, was released from prison.
August 2017
A judge released Myrick after he served two years for robbery. Otherwise, he would have transferred to an adult prison on his 17th birthday.
September 2017
Myrick was charged with a probation violation for posting gang-related material on social media. He was held in the Fulton County Jail.
February 2018
Myrick was released from jail and ordered to move in with the director of a rehabilitation program called Visions Unlimited.
July 2018
Myrick was charged with murder in the shooting death of Christian Broder, 34, outside the Capital City Club in Atlanta’s Historic Brookhaven neighborhood.
