1 Amazon pledges $20M for housing:

In Virginia, Amazon is offering $20 million to Arlington County affordable housing investment fund in exchange for being allowed to build a bigger headquarte­rs complex in Pentagon City neighborho­od than zoning allows. The money is a fraction of what tech companies such as Microsoft, Google and Apple have pledged to address affordable housing concerns on the West Coast.

2 Priests guilty:

An Argentine court on Monday found two priests and a lay worker guilty of the sexual abuse and rape of 10 former students of a Catholic institute for the deaf, the first legal victory for a string of hearing-impaired victims stretching from Italy to the Andes whose denunciati­ons against one of the clerics to church officials including Pope Francis went unheeded for years.

3 Restaurant mogul dies:

Harry Morton, a restaurant mogul who was the son of the Hard Rock Cafe chain co-founder and grandson of the Morton’s The Steakhouse founder, has died. He was 38.

4 Justices reject call for new trial:

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a Maryland man’s bid for a new trial based on informatio­n uncovered by the hit podcast “Serial.” The justices did not comment in leaving in place a 4-3 ruling by Maryland’s highest court that denied a new trial to Adnan Syed, who was convicted of strangling a high school classmate he had once dated.

5 Miss. begins selling lottery tickets:

People across Mississipp­i got into the scratch-off fever Monday as lottery tickets went on sale for the first time in the state. For decades Mississipp­i was one of only six states without a lottery. There was strong opposition from politicall­y powerful churches. People often drove to neighborin­g states such as Louisiana to buy tickets there.
