1 Putin proposal: Russian President Vladimir Putin offered Thursday to immediately extend the only remaining nuclear arms reduction pact with the United States, but a senior U.S. official said Washington wants a broader deal involving China. Speaking at a meeting with military officials, Putin said that Russia has repeatedly offered the U.S. to extend the New START treaty that expires in 2021 but that it hasn’t heard back.
2 Mice in space: Forty mice were sent to the International Space Station on Thursday as part of a joint effort between the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, UConn Health and Connecticut Children’s to better understand muscle atrophy and bone degeneration. The mice were launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft .
3 Cutting ties: Tufts University is cutting ties with the billionaire family that owns OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma, saying it will strip the Sackler name from its Boston campus and accept no further donations amid concerns over the family’s role in the opioid crisis. They plan to remove the Sackler name from the graduate school of biomedical sciences, its medical school building, and a laboratory and two research funds.
4 Infant sleeper: Amazon and eBay said they planned to stop selling infant inclined sleepers, popular products that federal safety regulators recently warned the public to stop using after they were linked to more than 70 accidental deaths.
5 Lyft lawsuit: Twenty more women have come forward alleging they were raped or sexually assaulted while using Lyft, adding to a growing list of legal complaints against the ridehailing company from passengers who say they were targeted by drivers on the app.
