What’s not working around metro Atlanta

-

Item: Atlanta (Fulton)

During the holiday season, traffiffic can be a nightmare at the local mall. Recently, we got an email from a reader trying to get to the mall.

“I have taken East Paces Ferry Road that goes behind Lenox Mall for years to get to the mall or shops on the other side of themall. Today, making a left from Roxboro Road onto East Paces Ferry Road, I discovered the road pattern was different, and I ended up in the center lane that was for oncoming traffific,” wrote Carol Weber.

She said there is no sign age indicating a change to the road, and the markings are not clear. She added there is a southbound turn lane from Roxboro Road that the northbound left turners suddenly have to share.

“The lanes are significantly narrowed, and there was nearly an accident with a semi-truck because of the narrow width of the road, andit couldn’t make the turn properly. The semi nearly took out the street lamp and crushed part of the storm drain. The lane size is ridiculously narrow. The lane I was supposed to be in was so narrow I thought it wasn’t a lane,” she wrote.

She said she’s not sure if the roadway is complete. “I think it is very unsafe, and today the cars behind me ended up traveling in the wrong lane of traffiffic. I saw a near collision with one of those cars. The whole thing was crazy.”

We sent her concerns to the city of Atlanta and will keep you updated.

Item: Fayette (Fayetteville)

This week’s issue comes from south of the city, where a reader is concerned about a state highway.

The reader complained about a section of Ga. 85near its intersection on the south side of Fayetteville with Ga. 92. The reader sent us a photo to illustrate the partial repaving that has occurred on the road but wonders when the whole route will be repaved.

We sent the concern to DOT and will let you know when we have an answer.
