THE HOT CORNER
1 AUTO RACING: Kyle Larson scored one of the biggest victories of his career in Tulsa, Okla., by ending an 0-for-12 streak to finally win the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. Larson passed Christopher Bell with 17 laps in Saturday night’s main event to end his frustrating streak of futility and deny Bell a fourth consecutive win in the prestigious dirt race. Bell passed Larson on the final lap of last year’s Chili Bowl to hand the NASCAR star a crushing defeat.
2 SOCCER: Cyprus police have arrested a 30-year-old player in connection with a probe into alleged match-fixing in the country’s second-tier league and cup games. Police said the arrest was linked to two matches for which there was “heavy betting activity.” The development comes two days after the Cypriot soccer federation suspended all matches after a referee walkout because of a bombing attack against a colleague’s car. Federation officials will meet with referees’ association bosses today to see when matches can resume.
3 SKIING: Clement Noel skied through steadily falling snow to protect his first-run lead and win a World Cup slalom in Wengen, Switzerland. Noel topped Henrik Kristoffersen, who retook the overall World Cup standings lead.
WINTER SPORTS: American 4 Hunter Church won his first World Cup bobsled medal, a bronze in a four-man race at historic Innsbruck, Austria. It was the first medal for the U.S. men in a bobsled race on foreign soil since Steven Holcomb captured bronze on the same track in 2017. Germany’s Francesco Friedrich won the race.
5 WINTER SPORTS: Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller won a World Cup men’s luge race in Lillehammer, Norway, and the European championship, adding to his run of success on the 1994 Olympic track. Fischnaller has six Cup wins, and three of them have come in Lillehammer.
