Roswell eyes shuttle to ease downtown congestion.
Roswell leaders are slated this morning to discuss a new shuttle service to alleviate parking woes and congestion along its entertainment-packed Canton Street.
The Community Development and Transportation Committee will see a presentation with multiple options for a six-person electric shuttle to take downtown work- ers and guests from City Hall to a parking lot off Canton.
The cost would range from $2,200 to $6,800 a month, depending on the level of service.
Parking has often been a point of annoyance for visitors to the historic down- town.
Downtown business owners feel their parking trou- bles will only get worse as Roswell continues to develop around Canton Street, city administrator Gary Palmer wrote in a Jan. 23 memo.
He wrote that the businesses are “realizing a con- sistent decrease in business during peak hours due to lack of viable parking.”
He noted it was the busi- nesses who suggested the shuttle and installing blue- light call boxes along the walking path from Canton Street to City Hall, so employees of downtown businesses would feel safer if they’d rather walk than take th e shuttle.
Riders would hail the shuttle using a phone app. The shuttle would be run by 12 Oaks, which handles some valet services downtown.
The committee meeting begins at 8 a.m. today in room 220 of Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St.
