1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Nevada coach Jay Norvell (18-20 overall in three seasons) received a new five-year contract that runs through the 2024 season. He’s coming off back-to-back winning seasons and consecutive bowl appearances after going 3-9 in his first year. The contract includes a base salary and compensation totaling $625,000 per season, plus supplemental bonuses.
2 PRO FOOTBALL: Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier added assistant head coach to his job title, underscoring his role as one of coach Sean McDermott’s most trusted advisers. Frazier, 60, has 22 seasons of NFL coaching experience, including three-plusyears as head coach of the Vikings.
3 PRO SOCCER: Manchester City stayed on course to retain the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over secondtier Sheffield Wednesday, reaching the quarterfinals, while Leicester beat Birmingham by the same score. It was City’s fifth straight win, with the last four coming in four different competitions, including the League Cup final victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.
4 PRO SOCCER: Retirement did not last long for ex-U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard, who will play for the United Soccer League team that he co-owns. The former Everton standout, 40, said he will be on the field this season for Memphis in the second-tier USL League Championship, pending league and U.S. Soccer Federation approval. He retired last October at the end of the MLS season, his last with the Colorado Rapids.
5 SOCCER: Former FIFA Council member Kwesi Nyantakyi, who was banned from soccer for life by FIFA in 2018 for bribery and corruption, was charged with fraud and corruption in a criminal court in Ghana after he was caught in an undercover media sting accepting an alleged bribe of $65,000. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to reappear at court on March 25.
