PRO FOOTBALL: The Carolina Panthers signed QB Kyle Allen, 24, to a one-year contract extension. Financial terms were not available. He replaced an injured Cam Newton in Week 3 last season and led Carolina to four straight wins but later struggled and was replaced by rookie Will Grier.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Oklahoma will unveil a statue of 2017 Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield at its spring game April 18. Coach Lincoln Riley said the statue will be unveiled inside Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium before being placed in the Heisman Park outside the stadium. Oklahoma has seven Heisman winners and five of them already have statues in the park (Kyler Murray, the 2018 winner, does not have a statue yet).

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Tennessee DB Brandon Davis is recovering after being shot in the leg during an incident being investigat­ed by Knoxville police. Davis, 20, told police he was inside the Uptown Bar & Grill when he heard a shot and felt pain in his leg. Davis said he didn’t know who shot him or why. Police didn’t find a shell casing or blood. Police also could not find anyone who heard a gunshot or saw Davis inside the bar before the shooting. According to the incident report, an officer overheard some people saying Davis shot himself in the leg.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Indiana QB Peyton Ramsey is transferri­ng to Northweste­rn. Ramsey completed 67% of passes for 6,581 yards and 42 TDs with 23 intercepti­ons in three seasons. He lost the starting job in August to Michael Penix but as Penix dealt with injuries, Ramsey helped Indiana to its first eight-win season since 1993.

PRO BASEBALL: Mets OF Michael Conforto was scheduled to be examined by a doctor in New York after tweaking his side while making a catch in a recent game. He was out of the lineup Sunday and Monday following the injury.
