Looking for luck

A few events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in metro Atlanta.

- By Nina Hemphill Reeder

The emerald hues that usually take over the city in preparation for St. Patrick’s Day may be a bit dimmer this year, but there are still many ways to partake in the fun. While there have been cancellations of the some of the city’s biggest events due to the coronavirus — downtown’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and 5K, and Colony Square’s Luck of the Square — luckily for you, we’re highlighting a short list of other popular places to celebrate the St. Paddy’s Day weekend. Be sure to check with venues and event organizers before making plans to attend.

St. Patrick’s Day Parties at Fadó Irish Pub Buckhead

Fadó is planning two opportunities to celebrate the holiday. Since 1996, the Buckhead bar has been hosting its annual St. Patrick’s Day Block Party. The indoor/outdoor event will begin at 8 a.m., starting with televised English Premier League soccer and Six Nations Rugby matches. Early risers can enjoy brunch offerings, such as their Irish Breakfast. The party will also include live music, a D J, dancers, food trucks and beer and cocktail stations. And for United fans, the pub will air their major league soccer match against Kansas City at 7:30 p.m. A $20 cover charge is required for entry (after 12 p.m.) to Fadó’s Saturday block party.

The pub will also host another party on Tuesday, where festivities kick-off as early as 7:30 a.m. with a “Kegs and Eggs” menu. The St. Patrick’s Day celebration will also include live music, performances and a D J. A $10 cover charge will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and entry will be limited to 21 and up after 6 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Day Parties at Fadó Irish Pub Midtown

Similar to the Buckhead branch, Fadó’s Midtown location will host its set of parallel parties. The Midtown block party will take over 8th Street between Peachtree and Juniper streets. Midtown guests who arrive early will be in a prime location to watch the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day parade on Peachtree (which starts at noon) while joining in the pub’s festivities. Like Fadó’s Buckhead block party, the Midtown party will air soccer and rugby matches throughout the day. The Midtown party will also feature bagpipers, Irish dancers a live D J, and food and drink for purchase. A $10 cover charge is required for admission, and entry will be limited to 21 and up after 1 p.m. For their Tuesday St. Patrick’s Day party, doors open at 8 a.m. with a $10 cover charge starting at 4 p.m.
