New coronavirus testing site opens in Cobb

- CAROLYN CUNNINGHAM FOR THE AJC

A new COVID-19/coronavirus drive-thru testing site is open now in Austell.

The location is Peachtree Immediate Care, 1850 East West Connector, Austell — a part of the Emory Healthcare Network.

In Cobb, the only other site — of the 10 in and near metro Atlanta — is at Peachtree Immediate Care, 3540 N. Cobb Parkway NW, Acworth from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

Those who suspect that they may have been exposed to COVID19 — with or without symptoms — can be tested at this site.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

The COVID-19 test is a molecularPCR test, which is reported to have a 99.6% accuracy rate, the highest in the industry, according to a news release.

The test is able to detect the virus before symptoms start and 14 to 21 days after symptoms end.

Test results typically take 48 to 72 hours.

On-site testing is available for assisted living facilities, employers and other large institutions.

No appointments or referrals are required.

Both the testing and evaluation are covered by most insurance, and no copay is required. There is a $175 self-pay option. Testing is open to both patients with symptoms as well as those who are concerned that they have been exposed to the virus.

The providers and staff at the site will conduct a limited review of participants’ health history, check basic vitals such as oxygen levels and listen to the heart and lungs. Information: 770-988-5824 Registration: PeachtreeMed. com/drive-thru-covid-19-testing
