THE HOT CORNER
1 MEDIA: It’s a different kind of year, and so The ESPYs will be, too. For the first time, the show will feature three hosts in remote settings and a changed focus. Instead of honoring the past year’s top athletes and moments in sports, the show is celebrating heroism and humanitarian aid. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, soccer star Megan Rapinoe and three-time WNBA champion Sue Bird will preside over the two-hour broadcast airing June 21 on ESPN. All three live in the Seattle area.
2 PRO TENNIS: If World TeamTennis gets its way, Grand Slam champs Sofia Kenin and Sloane Stephens could be among the first players to compete in front of fans after the coronavirus pandemic prompted lockdowns. WTT said it is planning to allow up to 500 spectators at each of its outdoor matches during a threeweek season from July 12 to Aug. 2 at a resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia . WTT intends to sell tickets for one-fifth of a 2,500-seat outdoor stadium.
3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Former Indiana QB Peyton Ramsey transferred to Northwestern, which also added punter Derek Adams. Ramsey and Adams are eligible to play this season as graduate transfers. Ramsey made 23 starts in three seasons with the Hoosiers. He passed for 6,581 yards and 42 touchdowns and rushed for 832 yards and 14 TDs.
PRO SOCCER: Joshua Kimmich’s 4 goal put Bayern Munich on the verge of its eighth consecutive Bundesliga title with a 1-0 win over rival Borussia Dortmund. Munich is seven points over Dortmund with six games left.
5 PRO SOCCER: Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury is less serious than first believed, with tests showing the AC Milan forward did not damage his Achilles tendon. Ibrahimovic was injured Monday while training for the restart of Serie A. He will be re-evaluated in 10 days.
