PRO FOOTBALL:

The Panthers have agreed to terms with free agent cornerback Eli Apple. The move gives Carolina the experience­d cornerback they coveted after James Bradberry signed as a free agent with the Giants. Apple has started 48 games during four seasons in the NFL and has 233 tackles, three intercepti­ons and three forced fumbles but has never lived up to the billing of being the 10th overall selection in the 2016 draft.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Kentucky and Notre Dame play this fall to begin a three-year series between two of college basketball’s winningest programs. Kentucky hosts Notre Dame on Dec. 12 in the first regular-season meeting between the schools since Notre Dame’s 64-50 victory at home Nov. 29, 2012. The teams play at a neutral site to be determined in 2021 and the Wildcats visit the Irish in 2022.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Former Georgetown guard Mac McClung will play at Texas Tech. Coach Chris Beard said Thursday that McClung had officially signed with the Red Raiders. The junior, who had put his name in the transfer portal after removing it from considerat­ion from the NBA draft, has two seasons of eligibilit­y remaining.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL:

Houston forward Fabian White Jr. will have knee surgery this week and miss this season after tearing an ACL while working out on his own this week. White was one of two Cougars to start all 31 games last season, averaging 9.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.

AUTO RACING:

The Dutch Grand Prix became the fourth Formula One race canceled this season because of the coronaviru­s pandemic, after organizers chose Thursday to not host it without spectators. It was to be the first Dutch GP since 1985, but F1 wants to start the season with no spectators at races.
