County has openings at 2 Head Start preschools

The federally funded Head Start program at two Cherokee County preschool sites has openings for children in the coming 2020-21 academic year, school district officials said.

The Head Start program at Ralph Bunche Center in Canton and Johnston Preschool Center at Johnston Elementary School in Woodstock provides free preschool to children who will be ages 3 and 4 by Sept. 1, according to a district announceme­nt. Applicatio­n forms are available at bit.ly/3gOQ j45

Families must meet income eligibilit­y requiremen­ts, the district said. Head Start students receive breakfast and lunch at no charge.

The preschool centers follow the same calendar as other Cherokee County School District schools.

The full-day program is led by a certified teacher with a paraprofes­sional assistant, with separate classes for the 3- and 4-year-old age groups. Given the ongoing COVID19 pandemic, “the Splash Pad will follow CDC guidelines by limiting the facilities capacity (and) enhancing sanitation and disinfecti­on, and we ask that users practice social distancing from other families,” according to the announceme­nt.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, June 5-Aug. 5, including Independen­ce Day; and 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6-Sept. 7, including Labor Day.

Daily admission is $2 per person, cash or check only, for those ages 1 and up. Adults entering with a paying child are free as long as they remain on the dry deck.

Individual annual passes are $30, and annual family passes, $60.

This year’s theme is “Imagine Your Story.” For all ages, the library system’s programmin­g will include Virtual Storytimes for Children and Adults, Digital Library tutorials and Author Talks.
