Where Can I Find It?

-

Greek seasoning, a dual-handled cast iron skillet and a business that can restore a framed family record,

Q: For years, the secret ingredient for my Greek salad dressing was McCormick Greek seasoning. I’m down to my last little jar and haven’t been able to find it for quite a while. I’ve tried one made by Sur la Table, but I didn’t care for the chili, and it didn’t taste Greek enough to me. Do you have a suggestion for another Greek seasoning that might be similar to McCormick? I realize it won’t be exact, but something close that has that nice Greek oregano flavor. Thank you for your help. — Dot Jansen, email

A: Check out Penzeys, 6269

Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, 404-256-7970, and you’ll find Greek seasoning in several sizes with prices starting at $4.49 for a 2.3-ounce jar. The seasoning combines coarse salt, Turkish oregano, garlic, lemon, black pepper and a bit of marjoram. McCormick discontinued its Greek seasoning in 2019.

Q: I have a framed family record that has names, births, marriages and deaths of family members beginning in 1902. Much of the ink is faded, making the names difficult to read. Is there someone in the Atlanta area who can darken the information, keeping the lettering in the old script? I live in Marietta but can drive to meet with someone who can help me. Thank you. — Judy Greene, email

A: Judy, I contacted Andrew Huot, a conservator, book artist and bookbinder who owns Big River Bindery, 6500 McDonough

Q: I have been looking for a cast iron skillet that’s about 12 inches around but without a long handle. Instead it comes with two small handles, so it’s almost like a baking pan. This type of pan fits so much easier in my smaller oven than a regular skillet does. I’m not looking for the expensive cast iron with the colored enamel coating, I want the black cast iron. I like the Lodge brand, but it doesn’t have to be that if it’s not possible to find. Please help if you can. Thanks so much. — T. Mason, Marietta

A: Old Time Pottery, 2949 Canton Road, Marietta, 770-419-9360, stocks a good supply of cast iron pans. I checked, and the store has a 12-inch, dual-handled skillet like the one you described. It’s made by Lodge and sells for $29.99. You have the option of ordering and paying for it online through oldtimepottery.com, then selecting a pick-up time if you don’t want to linger at the store.
