Rapinoe, Press among the players opting out of NWSL tournament

U.S. national team players Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath and Christen Press opted out of the National Women’s Soccer League tournament kicking off Saturday in Utah. Heath and Press, who played with Rapinoe for the World Cup champions last summer, cited concerns about the coronaviru­s. Teams announced their rosters for the Challenge Cup on Tuesday.

Among the national team players taking part are Chicago’s Julie Ertz and Alyssa Naeher, North Carolina’s Crystal Dunn and Portland’s Becky Sauerbrunn. The Orlando Pride on Monday dropped out of the tournament after six players and four staff members tested positive for COVID-19. will travel to Barcelona to assess the extent of a left knee injury. The club’s all-time leading scorer hobbled off during a 5-0 win over Burnley on Monday.

City has eight more league games to play before the Premier League finishes and is also in the FA Cup, which resumes next weekend.

PREMIER LEAGUE: Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel saved a firsthalf penalty to help his team earn a 0-0 draw vs. Brighton in the Premier League. Neal Maupay saw his low penalty stopped by Schmeichel in the 14th minute at the King Power stadium.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane scored his first goal since undergoing surgery to complete a 2-0 victory over West Ham. Tomas Soucek also scored.

LA LIGA: Atletico Madrid extended its good run after the pandemic break with a 1-0 win at Levante. An own-goal by Bruno Gonzalez in the 15th minute gave Atletico its third straight win and moved Diego Simeone’s team back into third place in the standings. Barcelona hosted Athletic Bilbao later Tuesday.

SERIE A: Napoli won 2-0 at Hellas Verona; Andreas Cornelius had a hat trick as Parma won 4-1 at Genoa; Torino beat Udinese 1-0; and Cagliari won 1-0 at Spal.
