1 Steve Bing dies: Movie producer, film financier, real estate heir and major Democratic political donor Steve Bing has died. He was 55. The Los Angeles County coroner said Bing died at his residence in the Century City section of Los Angeles. The coroner said Tuesday the cause of death was suicide.

2 Straws banned: Germany is banning the sale of single-use plastic straws, cotton buds and food containers, bringing it in line with a European Union directive intended to reduce the amount of plastic garbage that pollutes the environmen­t.

4 Seeking restrainin­g order: President Donald Trump’s family is seeking a temporary restrainin­g order to try to block publicatio­n of a tell-all book by the president’s niece, Mary L. Trump. Mary Trump is the daughter of the president’s late brother, Fred Trump Jr., and her book,“Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man,” is scheduled to be published by Simon & Schuster on July 28.

5 Help for Poland: President Trump welcomed Poland’s president to the White House on Wednesday, with a U.S. decision to send more American troops to Poland to bolster NATO’s eastern flank against Russian aggression. The U.S. will send another 1,000 troops to Poland — over and above the 1,000 declared last year. The U.S. ambassador to Poland said they might not be transferre­d from Germany, where Trump is planning to withdraw about 10,000 U.S. troops.
