1 TikTok ban? Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday that the United States is considering banning Chinese social media apps, including TikTok, one of the world’s most popular online platforms. Noting that India had recently banned dozens of Chinese apps, Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked Pompeo whether the Trump administration was exploring similar action against TikTok, which has around 30 million active American users.
2 Bookon Trump: A book by President Donald Trump’s niece describes a family driven by a series of traumas, exacerbated by a daunting patriarch who “destroyed” him by shortcircuiting his “ability to develop and experience the entire spectrum of human emotion,” according to the memoir. The book, to be released July 14, was written by Mary Trump.
3 Plague concern: Chinese health authorities are taking precautions to prevent a bubonic plague outbreak in a remote northern region after a herder contracted the disease, although experts say the risk is low given the limited number of cases so far and the availability of modern medicine.
4 Stone asks for clemency: Roger Stone, 67, on Tuesday asked President Donald Trump to grant him a pardon or commute his sentence before he starts a 40-month prison term on July 14. Stone: “I want the president to know that I have exhausted all my legal remedies and that only an act of clemency will provide justice in my case and save my life!”
5 Skipping convention: Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., announced Tuesday he would not attend next month’s Republican National Convention, becoming the second senior congressional Republican to say he’ll skip the gathering in Jacksonville, Fla. On Monday, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said he would not attend, citing concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
