Electronic payments only for firewood, ice

- DAVID IBATA FOR THE AJC

If you’re camping out at Lake Lanier in the near future, be sure to take a QR-enabled smartphone: The management of the lake says firewood and ice purchases will now be by electronic payments only.

“Each campground will have instructions posted at firewood and ice stations along with a QR code that you can scan with your smart phone to make a payment,” according to an announcement by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“Payments can be made via debit and credit card accounts in addition to PayPal,” the Corps said, citing the need for precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Electronic payments via smart phone will be the only form of payment until further notice.”

Prices remain unchanged from last year: $5 per firewood bundle and $3 for ice. Laundry machines will continue to require coins.
