Nashville out of MLS tourney after nine players test positive

Nashville SC has withdrawn from Major League Soccer’s MLS is Back tournament in Florida after nine players tested positive for the coronaviru­s, the league announced Thursday. Nashville is the second team to withdraw. FC Dallas had to pull out after 10 players and a coach tested positive.

“The club has been unable to train since arriving in Orlando and would not be able to play matches,” MLS Commission­er Don Garber said in a statement.

The league will revise its schedule for the group stage, which began Wednesday. Atlanta United’s first game is Saturday vs. New York Red Bulls.

U.S. Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who also co-owns the Atlanta Dream, released a letter Tuesday objecting to the WNBA’s plans to honor and participat­e in the “Black Lives Matter” movement during its coming season. You led the campaign to honor women who were victims of police brutality, like Breonna Taylor who was killed in her home in Louisville, to be honored on the back of jerseys during the season. Why was that important to you?
