PRO FOOTBALL:
The Arizona Cardinals said owner Michael Bidwill, 55, was released from a Rhode Island hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 last week.
PRO FOOTBALL:
The Cleveland Browns signed LSU linebacker and third-round draft pick Jacob Phillips, who led the national champion Tigers and the SEC in tackles last season.
PRO FOOTBALL:
Los Angeles Chargers safety Roderic Teamer was suspended for the first four regular-season games due to a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Teamer played in seven games as a rookie last season with six starts.
PRO HOCKEY:
The Minnesota Wild made Dean Evason their full-time head coach, signing him to a two-year contract extension at the commencement of training camp for the restarted NHL season. He was promoted to interim coach on Feb. 14 when Bruce Boudreau was fired, and the Wild went 8-4 under him.
PRO HOCKEY:
The Pittsburgh Penguins opened training camp after voluntarily sidelining nine players who may have had secondary exposure to a person testing positive for COVID-19. The Penguins did not reveal which players were held out. The NHL has barred teams from revealing injury or illness information as a way to protect player privacy.
BASKETBALL:
Longtime former coach Craig Robinson was hired as executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, taking over for Jim Haney, who has held the position for 29 years. The brother of former first lady Michelle Obama, Robinson has been VP of player development for the New York Knicks for the past three years.
RUNNING:
The Oct. 11 Chicago Marathon was canceled due to health concerns during the coronavirus pandemic.
