1 hurt, 2 held after police chase, shooting

No officers were injured in incident linked to stolen car.

One person is in critical condition and two teens are in custody after a police chase and shooting Monday in south Cobb County, the GBI said.

About 11:20 p.m., Cobb police saw a vehicle reported stolen out of Atlanta and tried to stop it on Riverside Parkway near Austell, agency spokeswoma­n Natalie Ammons said Tuesday in a statement. Three people were inside the car. The driver kept going, setting off the chase, according to the GBI. The vehicle hit a dead end in the 200 block of Riverside Parkway.

Officers gave the unidentifi­ed suspect aid before he was taken to Grady Memo- rial Hospital.

Cobb police arrested the remaining two suspects. A 17-year-old was taken into custody on an outstandin­g warrant and a 15-year-old was booked on charges related to the stolen vehicle. Their names were not released.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The is the 54th time the GBI has been asked to investigat­e an officer-involved shooting this year, spokeswoma­n Nelly Miles said.

The police shooting in Cobb is the third such incident in the state since Sunday morning and the second in metro Atlanta. Police fatally shot Marcos Reyes, 28, of Forest Park, on Sunday after authoritie­s said he fired a rifle at officers in Chamblee.

Hours later, Rodney Morrison, 47, of Leesburg, was shot and killed after threatenin­g deputies with a knife, according to the GBI. Lee County sheriff ’s deputies were trying to serve him court-mandated paperwork.
