OLYMPICS:

IOC President Thomas Bach warned against Olympic boycotts Friday while also confirming he will seek reelection next year. Bach seems certain to get four more years in 2021 after almost half of the 100 Internatio­nal Olympic Committee members from around the world praised him in an online version of their annual meeting. Bach’s first term was marred by the Russian doping scandal, but it has been a financiall­y stable period for the IOC as NBC signed a long-term television rights deal and new toptier sponsors were added.

PRO BASKETBALL:

Milwaukee Bucks guard Eric Bledsoe has tested positive for COVID-19 but has said he doesn’t have any symptoms associated with the coronaviru­s. Bledsoe hasn’t been with the team since it reported to Orlando, Florida, last week.

OBITUARY:

Bea Gorton, the first women’s basketball coach at Indiana, has died at 73. Gorton died at her home in Carol Stream, Illinois, on Tuesday. Gorton spent four seasons in charge of the Hoosiers (1972-76) and went 79-28, still the school record for winning percentage (.738).

PRO SOCCER:

Former World Cup winner André Schürrle retired at age 29 after failing to recapture the form that helped him star for Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea. Schürrle was released from his contract with Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. He was part of the Germany team that won the 2014 World Cup, scoring twice in a win over host Brazil in the semifinals.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Tennessee dismissed defensive lineman Emmit Gooden hours after his arrest on aggravated domestic assault, team spokesman Bill Martin confirmed. The defensive lineman made 33 tackles in 2018 after transferri­ng from a junior college. He missed last season with an ACL injury.
