COLLEGE BASKETBALL:
Forward Sandro Mamukelashvili opted out of the NBA draft and is returning to Seton Hall for his senior year. Small forward Corey Kispert has decided to return to Gonzaga for his senior season. Forward Yves Pons has informed Tennessee he is returning for his senior season with the Volunteers. Michigan State’s Xavier Tillman is headed to the NBA draft.
AUTO RACING:
NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, who can become a free agent in 2021, has been offered a stake in Richard Petty Motorsports, the team he drives for.“We’re in discussions with him about an extension that includes ownership in the team,” said Andrew Murstein, who owns RPM along with former driver Petty.
PRO BASEBALL:
Major League Baseball’s Field of Dreams game in Iowa was postponed until 2021. The game at a ballpark on the cornfield adjacent to the site of the 1989 movie had been scheduled for Aug. 13 and will feature the White Sox and a team that has not been determined.
PRO FOOTBALL:
The Minnesota Vikings acquired DT P.J. Hall from Oakland for a conditional seventhround draft pick in 2021, bringing in a reinforcement for the interior after the opt-out by expected starter Michael Pierce. Meanwhile, NFC champs the 49ers agreed on a one-year contract with free agent tight end Jordan Reed, who had 329 catches for 3,371 yards and 24 TDs in 65 career games for Washington.
PRO FOOTBALL:
RT Ja’Wuan James informed the Broncos on Monday that he’s opting out of the 2020 season over coronavirus concerns. The Broncos were counting on their headliner from last year’s free agent class to bounce back from a balky right knee that limited him to just three appearances after signing a deal for $51 million over four years. Panthers LB Christian Miller also announced he has opted out.
