UFC 252:

Stipe Miocic defeated Daniel Cormier by unanimous decision in a five-round bout Saturday night to win the rubber match in a trilogy between the fighters and retain his heavyweigh­t championsh­ip at UFC 252 in Las Vegas. Miocic (20-3) swept the scorecards 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 to stake his claim as perhaps the greatest heavyweigh­t in UFC history.

NBA:

The Utah Jazz said guard Mike Conley left Walt Disney World to return to Columbus, Ohio, for the birth of his son. The sixth-seeded Jazz begin a first-round playoff series against No. 3 seed Denver today. Players who leave the bubble are subject to a quarantine upon their return, though the length won’t be determined until then. It’s a setback to a Jazz team already missing Bojan Bogdanovic, who had right wrist surgery in May.

TENNIS:

Kei Nishikori, the 2014 U.S. Open runner-up, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and said he will pull out of the tuneup tournament at Flushing Meadows that starts next week. Nishikori posted what he called “some unfortunat­e news” on his mobile app but did not say what his plans are for the Grand Slam tournament that begins Aug. 31.

CYCLING:

Colombian rider Daniel Martinez won the Criterium du Dauphine race for the first time after leader Primoz Roglic pulled out before Sunday’s final stage in Megeve, France. Martinez becomes the third Colombian to win the stage race — shortened slightly this year because of the coronaviru­s — after Martin Ramirez (1984) and Luis Herrera (1988 and 1991).

HOCKEY:

The Los Angeles Kings announced the suspension of an employee who portrays the mascot. Tim Smith was named in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former member of the Kings Ice Crew, ESPN reported. Smith portrays Bailey the lion.
