Swanson, Duvall HRs power late comeback

- AJC staff

With two homers in the ninth, the Braves (14-10) erased a threerun deficit in their final at-bats in a come-from-behind win over Washington.

The details

Dansby Swanson hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to give the Braves a dramatic victory at Truist Park. Earlier in the inning, Adam Duvall pulled the Braves within one run with a two-run homer off Nationals closer Daniel Hudson.

At the plate

Nick Markakis doubled twice and now has 505 in his career. He moved past Robbie Alomar and Tony Perez into 59th place on the all-time doubles list. He trails Babe Ruth by one for 58th place.

On the mound

Touki Toussaint made it through only three innings. He allowed two hits — both second-inning home runs — and four earned runs before exiting. He struck out four and threw 73 pitches.

Notable

■ Braves got three solid innings of relief from Huascar Ynoa, who allowed just two hits and struck out four.

■ Braves relievers have pitched more innings (105⅓) than Braves starters (99⅔) this season.

■ Freddie Freeman batted second again and went 2 for 4.

Quotable

“I don’t even allow myself to think they are going to do it again when the inning starts. I just kind of sit there and let it happen. When it’s over, it’s like ‘Well, they did it again.’ It’s something else.” — Braves manager Brian Snitker on the comeback win.

Next

The Braves opened an eightgame homestand with their first game against the Nationals this season. They won’t see the defending World Series champions again until September.
