1 PRO TENNIS:

Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion, pulled out of the U.S. Open, citing a change of schedule. She is the latest woman with a Grand Slam title or high ranking to withdraw from the tournament that begins next week amid the coronaviru­s pandemic. Six of the top eight women in the WTA rankings already were out, including No. 1 Ash Barty, the reigning champion at Roland Garros, and No. 6 Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 winner at Flushing Meadows.

2 PRO SOCCER:

Los Angeles FC forward Carlos Vela is likely to be sidelined for at least a few weeks by a left knee injury. The reigning MLS MVP has a Grade 2 sprain of his medial collateral ligament.

Inter Milan confirmed Antonio Conte will remain as coach next season. His future at Inter had appeared uncertain after he criticized the club following the final league match of the season, and after losing the Europa League final to Sevilla on Friday, Conte said he wasn’t sure whether he’d be back.

Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, soccer’s highest-paid defender, was found guilty of assault, swearing in public and attempting to bribe a police officer in Greece. United issued a statement saying he “continues to strongly assert his innocence” and would appeal. Maguire was withdrawn from England’s national squad. 5 TRACK:

Usain Bolt tested positive for COVID-19 in Jamaica. Police are investigat­ing reports that the world-record holder flouted rules when he celebrated his birthday at a sports complex Friday.

AUTO RACING: 6

Formula One added four races to this year’s calendar and said “a limited number of fans”will be able to attend some remaining events. Races in Turkey, Abu Dhabi and two in Bahrain will take place in November and December.
