-

Two-time Pro Bowl safety Budda Baker agreed to terms on a $59 million, four-year contract extension with the Arizona Cardinals. With $33.1 million guaranteed, Baker is among the NFL’s highest-paid safeties. The 24-yearold led all NFL defensive backs with 147 tackles last season, including 104 solo. His rookie contract was set to expire after this season, but now he’s under contract through 2024.

BROWNS: Rookie safety Grant Delpit ruptured his right Achilles tendon Monday and will miss the season.

VIKINGS: LB Cameron Smith’s surgery to repair an enlarged heart went as planned, after a false positive COVID-19 test this month led to the diagnosis of the second-year player’s genetic defect. Smith said this month the rehabilitation process would take about three months. He’ll miss the season.

STEELERS: Bill Nunn, dubbed a “super scout” for finding NFL talent at historically Black universities, has been nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a contributor. Nunn was later the team’s assistant director of player personnel. Nunn is credited with helping build championship teams of the 1970s, advising on the drafting of WR John Stallworth from Alabama A&M, CB Mel Blount of Southern, and safety Donnie Shell of South Carolina State from HBCUs, as well as another Hall of Famer, LB Jack Lambert of Kent State.

FAN ATTENDANCE: The 49ers said they will play their season opener vs. Arizona without fans in attendance because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Vikings and Bills announced they will play at least their first two home games without fans in attendance.
