Braves rally, but HR wins it for Phillies

-

Scott Kingery hit a walkoff three-run homer as the Phillies fought off another Braves comeback. Here is a recap:

The details

The Braves trailed 4-1 after four innings but rallied to tie. Ender Inciarte and Austin Riley hit backto-back solo homers in the seventh inning to even the score, another blow to the Phillies’ beleaguered bullpen.

At the plate

Freddie Freeman and Riley each went 2 for 5. Freeman extended his hit streak to 11 games.

On the mound

Robbie Erlin worked four innings and gave up four earned runs. The Braves’ bullpen allowed only three hits the rest of the way, with Kingery’s homer off Mark Melancon one of them. It came with two strikes and two outs.

Notable

■ Adam Duvall left the game in the fifth inning with a sore right Achilles. Inciarte replaced him. Duvall is day to day, according to the team.

■ Freeman is hitting .404 (23 for 57) with 12 extra-base hits in his past 16 games.

■ In a game-changing play, Inciarte was called out trying to steal second after a leadoff walk in the top of the 11th inning. The close play was upheld on review.

Quotable

“That’s what I saw. (We would’ve been in) a really good spot. That’s a tough one when it doesn’t go your way. We all thought he was safe and he beat it. We would’ve stayed out of a double play and have two more chances. We all thought he stole the bag. Sometimes those don’t go in your favor.”

— Braves manager Brian Snitker on whether Inciarte was safe at second.
