1 HORSE RACING:

The Preakness Stakes will be run Oct. 3 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore without fans, making it a spectator-free sweep of the three Triple Crown races this year because of the global pandemic. The Preakness follows the lead of the Belmont Stakes and Kentucky Derby in not allowing fans to attend.

PRO HOCKEY: 2

Two Americans made sure Canada’s last team standing in the NHL playoffs will play at least one more game. San Diego native Thatcher Demko made 42 saves in his first NHL playoff start, Minnesota’s Brock Boeser scored and assisted on the go-ahead goal, and Vancouver staved off eliminatio­n by beating Las Vegas 2-1 Tuesday night in Game 5 of their second-round series in Edmonton, Alberta. In Toronto, the Flyers are sticking around for at least one more game. Scott Laughton scored on a redirect in overtime after Philadelph­ia blew a late two-goal lead, helping the Flyers stave off eliminatio­n with a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

3 PRO BASEBALL:

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was suspended for three games a day after he threw a fastball near the head of pinch-hitter Michael Brosseau in a 5-3 victory over Tampa Bay. ... Tigers OF JaCoby Jones is expected to miss the rest of the season with a fractured left hand.

4 CYCLING:

This month’s road world championsh­ips are moving to Imola, Italy, after Swiss host Aigle-Martigny backed out because of a government ruling limiting mass gatherings amid the pandemic. The event from Sept. 24-27 will feature only elite men’s and women’s categories. Junior and under-23 races were cut.

5 PRO SOCCER:

Neymar is one of three Paris Saint-Germain players who tested positive for the coronaviru­s. He is in isolation for two weeks and will miss PSG’s first Ligue 1 game.
