Public input sought on Regional Transit Plan

The Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority is seeking public input on the 2020 ATL Regional Transit Plan through Monday, Oct. 19, according to a press release.
Updated annually, the ARTP serves as the foundation for transit planning in the metro-region for the next 20 years, ensuring transit projects work together to create a seamless transit network and customer experience regardless of transit operator. This year, the ARTP includes 245 proposed projects designed to expand, maintain, or create transit service opportunities across the 13-county ATL region.
Projects included in the ARTP are anticipated to:
■ Increase transit trips in metro Atlanta overall by 39%, and to regional employment centers by 31%
■ Increase the proportion of low-income households within ½ mile of a high capacity transit station to 33%
■ Save over 99,000 gallons of gasoline used by metro Atlanta residents, annually
■ Result in a return on investment of over $140 billion, equaling a $5 return on every dollar spent on transit, if fully funded
Individuals interested in learning more about the 2020 ARTP are welcome to participate through a series of virtual public outreach efforts called District Downloads.
District Downloads provide several new ways to participate, including through a virtual open house experience and online meetings. Both platforms allow residents to learn, interact, and comment on the plan while maintaining social distancing best practices. Additionally, for the first time, the public can experience and comment on the ARTP by mobile phone texting, offering engagement without the need of high-speed internet access.

■ Christian City, a nonprofit located 15 minutes south of the Atlanta airport, recently announced its 2021 honorees for the second annual Community Champion Awards. The Community Champion Awards will pay tribute to Dan Cathy in the Individual category, The Home Depot in the Corporate category and 100 Black Men of Atlanta in the Nonprofit category. Christian City will recognize each of the 2021 honorees at the gala scheduled for April 29 at the Georgia Aquarium.
■ Transwestern Real Estate Services recently announced East Region President Bruce Ford has been selected to chair the board of directors for MakeA-Wish Georgia. His role as board chair will run through an initial term of two years.
■ Hannah Adkins of Atlanta is a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, in the Class of 2020.
■ Oweneika Armstrong from Atlanta graduated from Adams State University, Alamosa, Colorado, during the Spring 2020 Virtual Commencement Ceremony on June 6.
