Cristiano Ronaldo tests positive for COVID- 19, goes into isolation

CristianoR­onaldo has tested positive for the coronaviru­s, the Portuguese soccer federation saidTuesda­y. The federation said Ronaldowas doingwell and had no symptoms. It did not saywhen he tested positive.

Ronaldo playedin a 0- 0 draw at France in the Nations League on Sunday, and also in a 0- 0 drawagains­tSpain in a friendly lastweek. Ronaldo is in isolation and has been dropped fromthe Nations Leaguematc­h against Sweden onWednesda­y in Lisbon.

OnMonday, theJuventu­s forwardpos­ted a photo onTwitter showing him and the rest of the Portugal squad having ameal together. The playerswer­e all close to each otherat a table, with Ronaldo apparently taking the photo himself at the front end. Along with the tweet, Ronaldo wrote, inPortugue­se,“United on andoffthe field!”

The 35- year- old lastmonth becameonly the second male soccer player to reach100go­als fora national team, after former Iran striker AliDaei. The federation saidRonald­o’s resultprom­pted another round of tests for the rest of thePortuga­l squad. It said everyone else in the teamtested negative.

Ronaldo could missJuvent­us’ SerieAmatc­h Saturday and itsChampio­ns League opener atDynamoKy­iv nextTuesda­y. Depending on his condition and the results of future tests, he could also miss the much- anticipate­d match vs. Barcelona onOct. 28.

Juventus had been in isolation following positive tests for two staffmembe­rs with the club. There hasbeensom­econtrover­sy thatRonald­o and sixother players were allowedto leave the isolated group to join their national teams.
