Cristiano Ronaldo tests positive for COVID- 19, goes into isolation
CristianoRonaldo has tested positive for the coronavirus, the Portuguese soccer federation saidTuesday. The federation said Ronaldowas doingwell and had no symptoms. It did not saywhen he tested positive.
Ronaldo playedin a 0- 0 draw at France in the Nations League on Sunday, and also in a 0- 0 drawagainstSpain in a friendly lastweek. Ronaldo is in isolation and has been dropped fromthe Nations Leaguematch against Sweden onWednesday in Lisbon.
OnMonday, theJuventus forwardposted a photo onTwitter showing him and the rest of the Portugal squad having ameal together. The playerswere all close to each otherat a table, with Ronaldo apparently taking the photo himself at the front end. Along with the tweet, Ronaldo wrote, inPortuguese,“United on andoffthe field!”
The 35- year- old lastmonth becameonly the second male soccer player to reach100goals fora national team, after former Iran striker AliDaei. The federation saidRonaldo’s resultprompted another round of tests for the rest of thePortugal squad. It said everyone else in the teamtested negative.
Ronaldo could missJuventus’ SerieAmatch Saturday and itsChampions League opener atDynamoKyiv nextTuesday. Depending on his condition and the results of future tests, he could also miss the much- anticipated match vs. Barcelona onOct. 28.
Juventus had been in isolation following positive tests for two staffmembers with the club. There hasbeensomecontroversy thatRonaldo and sixother players were allowedto leave the isolated group to join their national teams.
