1SKATING: Skate Canada, the second event of the Grand Prix series, has been canceled amid concern of risingCOVID- 19 cases in Ontario. The event was scheduled for Oct. 3031in Ottawa with no fans in attendance, but the decision was madeto scrap the competition by the city, the provincial government, and Skate Canada organizers.
2TENNIS: Top- seeded Fabio Fognini has withdrawn from the Sardinia Open after testing positive for coronavirus. Fognini was scheduled to play Roberto Carballes Baena in the second round of the clay court tournament. The Italian had been given abye but played a doubles match Tuesday with Lorenzo Musetti.
3VOLLEYBALL: Three- time Brazilian Olympian Sheilla Castro, 37, is coming out of retirement to play in a new U. S. professional volleyball league early next year. She also hopes tomake another Olympic team after already capturing two gold medals during a decorated career.
4BASKETBALL: Former Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown has quit as head coach of the Australian men’s basketball team for the Tokyo Olympics. Brown informed Basketball Australia he could no longer committo the job because of uncertainties around his professional future and the difficulties of traveling internationally with his family during theCOVID- 19pandemic.
5HOCKEY: The Champions Hockey League, one of Europe’s leading ice hockey competitions, canceled its2020- 21seasonTuesday because of the coronavirus pandemic. The CHL was due to begin next monthin an already shortened format with a knockout bracket and no round- robin.
