‘ Legally Blonde 3’ gets its long- awaited release date

What, like it’s hard? Thecastof“LegallyBlo­nde” had no trouble spilling the beansTuesd­ayaboutthe­hotly anticipate­d third fifilm in the franchise during their virtual cast reunion, nearly two decades after theorigina­lfifilm hit theaters.

“Legally Blonde 3,” which will be penned by Mindy Kaling and “Brooklyn NineNine” co- creator Dan Goor, will sashay its way into theaters in May 2022, the cast announced.

Reese Witherspoo­n, who starred asbubbly blondeHarv­ardLawstud­entElleWoo­ds, kicked offffthe reunionby noting the 2001 romantic comedy “comes up more than any other” fifilm she’s made.

Metro- Goldwyn- Mayer, which produced the franchise’s first two films, confirmed in a Tuesday night tweet: “Elle Woods is back! LegallyBlo­nde 3 comingMay 2022. We rest our case.”

“I think she just inspired people to believe in themselves,” Witherspoo­n, 44, said ofherlegal­lymindedal­terego. “She just has a true sense of herself and she alwayswant­s to see the best in others. ... I think her spirit is something we could all use a little bit more of right now.”

The reunion, which benefifite­dnonprofif­itWorldCen­tral Kitchen, included Luke Wilson,

Jennifer Coolidge and Selma Blair.

“Legally Blonde” was followed by “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White& Blonde” in2003, and even got the Broadway treatmentw­henitwasad­apted for a stage musical in 2007, forwhichit­scoredseve­nTony nomination­s, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.

In April, the “Big Little Lies” star hinted heavily at the forthcomin­g fifilm during a chat with Jennifer Lopez when the singer- actress said there were three “Legally Blonde” fifilms.

“There’s two,” Witherspoo­n said politely, adding, “But I’m thinking wemight be working on a three.”
