NewFlorida specialty license plate features Dolphins legend Marino

Herewrote theNFLreco­rd books and carried the Miami Dolphins during17of the team’s most glorious years. NowNFLHall ofFamequar­terbackDan­Marino is tossing his likeness onto Florida license plates.

Approvedla­stmonth by a stroke ofGov. RonDeSanti­s’pen, the newspecial­ty plate has Marino’s autograph overlaid on an image of the legendary quarterbac­k dropping back fora throwin his nowretired­No. 13jersey.

Ifyou’rewilling to toss$ 33 to showyour love forMarino, $ 25of it will go theDan Marino Foundation to benefit the Marino Campus, which helps students with autism and other learning disabiliti­es.

“Iamexcited about our license plate,” Marino said.“Help us to score a touchdown for our students andyoung adults.”

The Marino Centerwas started in2014to help high school graduates ages18- 30with autism and otherdevel­opmental disabiliti­es to get jobs and acquire college- level skills.

The centerhas a campusin Fort Lauderdale­where students focus on skills such as informatio­n technology.

“TheAcademy­Program supports skill- building in people withdevelo­pmental disabiliti­es by tapping into their interests, building social and profession­al networks, and exposure towhat their local communityo­ffers,” Dan Marino told theSouth Florida Sun Sentinel.

Marino started the foundation in1992afte­rhis second son, Michael, was diagnosed with autism.

The license plates havebeen in theworks foryears but have failed to get approval fromstate leaders.
